Schroeder leads In race for dollars

Deputy Attorney General Conrad Schroeder led the way in fund-raising among Redondo Beach City Council candidates as of last week, building a campaign war chest of $7,130, according to documents on file at City Hall.

California Correctional Peace Officers contributed $500 to Schroeder during a reporting period ending Feb. 17. Contributing $100 apiece were Lacaze Development Company of Torrance and Rob Katherman of Rancho Palos Verdes.

Schroeder’s opponent in the city’s District 4, Kurt Schmalz, raised $6,650.

Schmalz received $500 apiece from the Redondo Beach Police Officer’s Association, Redondo Beach Marina President Bill McMaster, and the Los Angeles Physician’s Committee.

Incumbent District 2 Councilman Kevin Sullivan raised $4,575 for his campaign.

Sullivan received $250 apiece from William Webster, King Harbor Yacht Club commodore, the Beach Cities Democratic Club, Lacaze Development and AES Corp.

Businessman Jim Coleman, Sullivan’s challenger, accepted no contributions but spent $1,800 on his campaign. ER
