Brownies prepare to descend upon Manhattan

It's going to be awfully hard to buy a dozen eggs or a plastic storage bin without returning home with a box full of Thin Mints come next month.

On March 2, girls from the Live Oak Neighborhood of the Los Angeles Girl Scouts will begin selling seven different kinds of their famous cookies at locations in and around Manhattan Beach. Over local 60 troops made up of 700 girls ranging from kindergarten to high school will set up booths outside local businesses such as Ralph's, Target and Bank of America in the hopes of selling Do-si-dos, Samoas, Lemon Drops, Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Trefoils and Apple Cinnamon cookies to all within ear or grin shot.

There will be some new editions to the popular starchy goods this year as well. Depending on distribution, scout supporters will now be able to buy one of two new flavors of cookies. "Animal Treasures" cookies dipped in chocolate bearing the likenesses of actual bears will available in some areas, while "Aloha Chips with Macadamia Nuts" will add a Hawaiian accent to the old staple, the chocolate chip cookie.

Scouts also will be accepting cash donations that they will exchange in an equal amount of cookies to be delivered to local homeless shelters.

Be on the lookout and please remember to forget your New Year's resolution about dieting. ER
