About Town - Hermosa Beach

Power cuts urged

The Hermosa Beach City Council has resolved to cut municipal electricity use by 7 percent, as other cities consider the same measure in response to California’s power shortage.

The council also urged residents to cut their electricity use by the same amount, to help forestall rolling power blackouts.

Gov. Gray Davis has asked state agencies to trim their electricity use as well.

Dark streets

In another power-related matter, the city council was told that streetlights are expected to remain dark for about three months in the area of Aviation Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, as Southern California Edison workers make repairs.

The traffic signals are expected to continue functioning normally as repairs are made to allow power to reach the streetlights. ER
