Carjacking

Police Beat: Manhtattan Beach

Carjacking

At approximately 5 p.m. on Dec. 13 a man approached a couple outside a restaurant on the 1500 block of Rosecrans Avenue, police said. The stranger asked for directions, and then pulled out a gun and told the man and woman to sit on the curb. He then took their wallets, cell phones and keys. The suspect entered the male victim’s blue Lexus GS 300 and drove off in it.

Stolen wire

A telephone company subcontractor reported that sometime between Dec. 8 and Dec. 11 someone removed $2,400 worth of copper wire and busbars from a storage area on the 900 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard. He told police that a set of keys to the rear gate were missing and that that was likely how access was gained to the property.

Canuck crook?

A Manhattan resident reported on Dec. 12 that he had received three phone calls from someone who told him that he had won $250,000 in the Canadian lottery. The stranger said that he would send the money as soon as $2,300 in cash was wired to an address in Canada. The Manhattan man said he had not received any more calls, but that he wanted to let the police and community know about the alleged scam.

Prowler

Around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 15 a resident of the 1600 block of 22nd Street reported seeing someone standing in his backyard. Once discovered, the prowler fled, and the resident called police. A search of the area was made, but no suspect was found.
