City Council:

Three city council seats up for grabs March 6

by Dan Bialek

On March 6, Manhattan Beach voters will choose from six candidates to fill three of the five city council seats. Voters will also determine the outcome of the city treasurer’s s race, which should be much easier to call -- only one candidate is running. Following is a list of candidates and comments from them on whey they are running.

City Council

Jim Aldinger, Boeing department manager

"I think Manhattan Beach is a great place to live and work, and I'd like to help make it the best it can be. I want to give something back to the community.

Linda Wilson
Incumbent, running for a second term

"I want to continue heading the city in the direction it has been headed in the past. I'd like to see the police and fire facilities get built. And I want to get this accomplished in the next four years."

David E. Simon
Chairperson Chamber of Commerce, Planning Commission Chairperson

"Because of the experience I've had on the planning commission. I think on the city council I'd be able to do more. I think with my experience I'll be able to get the job done the way it should be done, and I'd enjoy doing."

Steven A. Napolitano
Incumbent, running for a third term

"I’m asking the residents to re-elect me so I can finish the things I’ve started and protect our small town atmosphere and low profile development."

Christopher Campbell
Lawyer

"I don't want to change the city, I want to protect it. We have traffic and noise problems, and I want to make sure that the city continues to grow, but grows wisely."

Chuck Buresh
Management consultant, past member of Chamber of Commerce

"My platform focuses on conservation. My general posture leans toward formulating alternative resolutions to problems that are timely, more efficient, and least expensive."

City Treasurer

Earle Hupp
Incumbent, running for a second term

"It’s been rewarding working with the city staff as chairman of the finance subcommittee of the city council for the last four years. I look forward to the next term, especially to finally see the Metlox project come to fruition." ER
