City candidates

As of 12 p.m. on Tuesday nine residents had pulled or filed papers to run in the March 2001 city elections. City council candidates now include incumbents Steven Napolitano and Linda Wilson, as well as residents Jim Aldinger, George Balen, Chuck Buresh, Christopher Campbell, Bill Eisen, and David Simon. Incumbent Earle Hupp has also pulled and filed papers to run for his position again. The filing period ends 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15.

Teachers' honor roll

Six Manhattan Beach Unified School District teachers have received the prestigious National Board Certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. They are Patricia Galante, Liz Herbert, Kathleen Wagner, Sara Peters, Kristi Knobloch, and Joanne Schepis. The Manhattan Beach Education Foundation will honor them at the Superintendent's Circle on Feb. 15.

Winter wonderland

The MB Parks & Recreation Department's children's Winter Fest Playground program will run Dec. 18-30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday (except for Christmas Day). The programs will be conducted at Live Oak Park, 19th and Valley Drive, and Manhattan Heights Park, 1600 Manhattan Beach Blvd. Children 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Activities will include a snow day, candy cane hunts, a trip to Knotts "Merry" Farm, games, a holiday craft workshop, and sports. For more information call 802-5419.

Have a 'crafty' holiday

The MB Parks & Recreation Department's annual Family Holiday Crafts Night will be held 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Josyln Community Center, 1601 Valley Dr. All materials for crafts, as well as finger foods, hot cider, and cocoa will be provided free of charge. However, reservations are requested. Call 802-5419 for reservations and information.

Dreidel, dreidel

Manhattan Village will hold a special Chanukah celebration on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. in Center Court. Dreidels, menorahs, and candles will be given away. For more information call 546-5556.

Holiday concert

The Hospice Foundation will host the Paul Smith Family Holiday Concert at Norris Theatre on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Tickets are $55. Call 544-0403 for tickets, or 257-3535 for more information. ER
