Thwarted
Two men tried to break into a house on the 1000 block of Avenue D around 5:45 a.m. last Wednesday. They rang the doorbell, and when the homeowner answered it, they forced open the door. One of the men, displaying a handgun, ran upstairs, while the other wrestled with the victim. The mans family called 911 and both would-be robbers left the house in under a minute without taking anything.
Car theft
After drinking at a Pier area establishment, a pair of men and a group of two men and a woman got into an argument on the 100 block of W. Torrance shortly after midnight Saturday. As the squabble looked like it was about to turn physical, the woman took off in the other groups 1997 Chrysler Sebring. Officers stopped the car and arrested the woman on suspicion of car theft. She said one of the men had drawn a handgun, but no weapon was ever recovered.
Heavy metal outlaw
Someone broke into a business on the 2900 block of Fisk Street carting off about 400 pounds of metal. The thief or thieves cut a hole in an alleyway fence and entered the compound between Friday night and Saturday morning. A shopping cart was found near the hole in the fence. About $250 worth of copper and other metals were found missing.
A semester of detention
A teacher at Redondo Beach middle school discovered that a checkbook, wallet and $15 had been taken from her purse last Monday. She had left the purse in her unlocked classroom when she went out for lunch.
Drugstore cowboy
Someone broke into a drugstore on the 1800 block of S. Pacific Coast Highway last Sunday night. The thief pried up part of the roof and slipped inside the store. Then they cut through an interior wall to get into the pharmacy. The safe with the drugs in it was next on their list. It was broken into and the thief made off with prescription drugs including Vicodin and Valium.ER
