Police v. Fire

South Bay police and firefighters will square off once again for their annual charity basketball game 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 inside the North Gym at El Camino College.

The game typically draws a large huge turnout, and was attended last year by Los Angeles Lakers' star Kobe Bryant. This year three Olympic gold medalists -- Eric Fonoimoana of Hermosa Beach, his volleyball partner Dain Blanton, and USA baseball team manager Tommy Lasorda are scheduled to attend, organizers said.

The event benefits the Ann Wilk Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

Donations of any size are accepted at the door, but they are not necessary, organizers said. Corporate sponsors of the event include Arco, Chevrolet, Epson, Anheuser-Busch and the Lakers.
