John Shearer drops into a cold Santa Cruz left during the Northern California Bodysurfing Championships. |
Hermosa Beach residents and Gillis Beach Bodysurfing Association (GBBA) members John Rogers and John Shearer won two of the three men's divisions at the Northern California Bodysurfing Championships. Approximately 40 of the world's best bodysurfers competed in the event, held Saturday, October 7 in Santa Cruz.
Four to six foot waves at Laguna Creek reflected off a large rock and peaked, wedged, and peeled along a sandy beach, offering excellent lefts. Rogers took first place in the Senior Men's Division (50-plus). Shearer earned first in the Mid-Men's Division (35-49).
Other GBBA finalists were Cece Chapman (San Francisco) and Dave Hazard (Manhattan Beach), who earned first and third in the "Second Chance" division. Jon Hazard (Manhattan Beach) took fourth place in "Second Chance."
