Lobster fest
Lobster season officially kicked off last week, but Redondo's annual festival of all that is lobster starts next Friday, Oct. 13, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 15. Heart of the city
Got a stake in the future of the waterfront? Redondo Beach wants your input on the "Heart of the City" plan at the final community workshop 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Redondo Beach Main Library, 303 N. Pacific Coast Highway. Traffic, harbor and parking consultants will present their individual studies and urban designers are expected to show their final plan.
Register to vote
The Redondo Beach City Clerk's office is staying open late to Tuesday, Oct. 10, for get-it-in-under-the-wire voters. Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in the presidential general election this November. The Clerk's office is located at 415 Diamond St. and can be reached at (310) 318-0656.
Breakfast with a senator
The Redondo Beach and Torrance chambers of commerce are co-sponsoring a breakfast with Democratic Senator Debra Bowen. Bowen will outline her legislative goals and field questions at the meeting which starts 7:15 a.m., Tuesday, October 10 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Redondo Beach. Tickets are $13. Debating the 36th district
South Bay representative Congressman Steve Kuykendall and former Congresswoman Jane Harman will debate Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Torrance Marriott. Harman and Kuykendall are both running for the 36th district congressional seat. Tickets are $35 per person. For reservations call (310) 376-6911 ext. 26. The debate will be cancelled if Congress is still in session and Rep. Kuykendall is unable to return to the district.
Literacy first
Bring a blanket, picnic dinner and a good book for each person to read and come down to the second annual Redondo Reads. The literacy party will take place Thursday, Oct. 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at all elementary school sites in the Redondo Beach Unified School District.

Redondo Beach Rotary and the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring their first joint golf tournament Wednesday, October 18 at the Los Alamitos "Destroyer" Golf Course. Portions of the $125-per-person entry fee fund Juvenile Diabetes treatment and research. Tee-sign sponsorship is available for $150.
