City Manager gets an assistant
Welcome Sherilyn Lombos to City Hall. Lombos, formerly an administrative analyst from Fremont in Northern California, started Monday as assistant to the City Manager, a position long held by Dave Doyle before he left for Diamond Bar in July. Lombos holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and political science and a master's in public administration from the University of Kansas.
Old Hometown Fair this weekend
Uniquely Manhattan Beach, the Old Hometown Fair takes its place alongside Live Oak Park on Valley Drive in downtown Manhattan Beach this weekend. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday stroll the booths for jewelry, art and clothing, munch on terrific food at the large food courts and watch the kids hop on a police motorbike or pony for a photo opportunity. Don't forget the Old Hometown Fair 10K race Saturday morning at 7 a.m., a staple in Manhattan Beach for 23 years. It finishes along The Strand at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
Book drive for juveniles
The Los Angeles County Children's Court, which handles all cases of child abuse and neglect in the county, is embarking upon a new project to make books available for children of all ages. The idea is to have books for children and their caretakers to read while waiting for their cases, and then to take a book home with them when their cases are concluded. The court needs books that are in good condition, both in English and Spanish, for children of all ages. The books may be dropped off care of councilmember Joyce Fahey, a part-time children's court judge, at the Office of the Manhattan Beach City Manager at the Manhattan Beach City Hall, 1400 Highland Avenue, Manhattan Beach.
