Robbed at home
A man entered an unlocked residence in the 2100 block of Harkness Avenue last Wednesday evening and robbed a female resident of jewelry and cash valued at $38,000. After showing the suspect where she kept her valuables, the victim was ordered to lie on her bed for 10 minutes. The suspect then fled the residence. The victim was unharmed. No firearm or other weapon was displayed during the robbery.
Robbed in a garage
A woman returning home from work was robbed at gunpoint in her garage Sept. 22 in the 900 block of 10th Street. A single armed suspect confronted the woman as she reached into her car. The woman screamed continuously despite the robber's demand she "be quiet" and "shut up." The robber was able to pull a $9,000 ring off the woman's finger and fled after the babysitter entered the garage and turned on the light. The victim was not physically hurt. Police were trying to determine if the victim was followed home from her job selling jewelry in Newport Beach.
Puppies found dead
A police officer performing a standard security check at the Comfort Inn on Sepulveda Boulevard made a sad discovery in the early morning hours of Sept. 23. Responding to an employee's report of something crying, the officer searched a trashcan in the below-ground parking garage. In a plastic bag, he discovered six week-old Rottweiler puppies. Only one was alive.
Smashed
A 26-year-old man went on a vandalism rampage in downtown Manhattan Beach early Sept. 24. He smashed the window of the upscale flower shop Growing Wild on 12th Street, unlocked the door and ransacked its interior. He also smashed a window in the Bank of America building across the street on Highland Avenue. ER
