Loreto bound
The Hermosa Beach sister city program holds its annual auction 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1800 the Strand.
The auction's $5 admission fee will include a spot in a drawing for a free trip for two to Loreto, with air travel donated by Aero California.

The Community Center Foundation holds its annual fund-raiser, working with the Hermosa Beach Playhouse to present a VIP preview of "Dracula," Sunday, Oct. 15.
The evening, dubbed "Marvelous Macabre Gala," begins 5 p.m. and includes a preview party with no-host bar and a live auction with Civic Light Opera impresario James Blackman as auctioneer. Proceeds will go toward a new sound system for the playhouse.

Triathlon and festival
The 9th annual Hermosa Beach Triathlon and festival will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Hermosa Pier. The race begins at 7:15 a.m. The event is sold out, but come and watch the participants swim three-quarters of a mile, bike nine miles and complete the contest with a three-mile run. 818-707-8866, ext. 14.
For dogs and cats
A low-cost vaccination clinic for dogs and cats will be offered from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Hermosa Beach Community Services Office on the southwest corner of Pier Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.
Fee for the rabies vaccine is $5. All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in secure pet carriers. For information call (562) 948-2211. ER
