Mask-a-raid

Police Beat - Redondo Beach

Mask-a-raid

A woman arrived at her home in the 1400 block of Fifth Street on the afternoon of Sept. 19 only to encounter a mask-wearing teen who had broken in. The woman grabbed the teen's shirt, but he was able to escape. The woman was treated for cuts and scrapes at a local hospital and released.

Slug-ish

Police were called to a family disturbance in the 500 block of 21st Street on Sept. 12, where a 40-year-old man allegedly threatened to harm his elderly father. The son who, according to his father, has had a history of drug and alcohol use and had suicidal tendencies, reportedly told his dad the night before, "If you don't leave me alone, I'm going to put a slug in you." When police arrived, the son, a Gulf War veteran, voluntarily relinquished possession of his firearms. Eight rifles, three shotguns and six handguns were seized from the son's bedroom. Each weapon was loaded with a chambered round. The father also told police that his hearing was bad and his son may simply have threatened to slug him. The son was transported to an area hospital for psychiatric observation.

Ultimate vandalizing machine

A woman parked her BMW convertible in the parking lot next to a baseball field in the 1500 block of 18th Street Sept. 7. When she returned the next morning, she found the front hood open and parts of the engine torn out and thrown on the ground. The passenger door and passenger side panel were kicked in and the dashboard was partially torn off. The woman said she heard loud banging and voices in the park at 1 a.m., but presumed that kids were banging on trashcans at the field.

Fingering a suspect

A woman drove out of a gas station heading south on Sepulveda Boulevard Sept. 13 when a man driving a maroon SUV sped up behind her and started honking. Approaching Second Street, the man pulled even with her and threw a rock at her vehicle. When they stopped at the light, he yelled, "I'm going to get you. I saw you flipping me off." The suspect then sped off southbound on Sepulveda.

Frost was wrong

A man was standing in the front yard of his home in the 500 block of 21st Street at 6 p.m. on Sept. 12 when a neighbor approached. The neighbor told the man that he did not believe he was as stupid as he looked and vowed to get even with him if it took the rest of his life. The victim of the verbal barrage told police that he'd called code enforcement earlier in the week about a fence that was too high. ER
