Two past two
An apartment on the 500 block of Anita was broken into on Friday, Sept. 1. The victim and her boyfriend had left on a trip the day before. At 2 a.m. she got a call on her home answering machine, a neighbor had seen a pair of men trying to break into the unit. One man climbed onto the balcony and cut the screen on the outside of a sliding glass door. The other man stood by, acting as a lookout. They duo didn't make an entry, and the case is currently under investigation.
Time and money
A burglar or burglars slid open an unlocked glass door of an apartment on the 1000 block of South Catalina. They made off with a wad of cash and a wristwatch. The victim said he hadn't looked for the valuables between Friday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 11 so he didn't know exactly when they were lifted. He also said that he wasn't in the habit of locking that door, but would do so from then on.
Cold steel
A .45 caliber handgun was stolen from a hallway cabinet in a house the 800 block of S. Catalina. The unloaded stainless steel automatic was taken some time between 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, and 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11. Nothing else was taken from the residence.
Smashing night out
Two cars were broken into on S. Irena street the night of Friday, Sept. 8. A thief smashed the passenger front window of a 1991 Mazda Navajo on the 200 block, stealing the car's stereo. A black 2000 Mitsubishi Montero on the 400 block had its rear window smashed. The thief grabbed a backpack, some clothes and a walkman. A green 1994 Isuzu Trooper on the 600 block of Sapphire was also broken into that night. The auto burglar smashed the driver's side window and made off with a pair of sunglasses and a flashlight.
