One very large Icosahedron please
Morris Schwartzberg's geometry classes at Mira Costa High School will attempt final assembly of the world's largest icosahedron at 12:15 p.m. today in the school auditorium. An icosahedron is a geometric solid consisting of 20 equilateral triangles that form a planar net. If successful, the final product will be somewhat spherical, eight feet tall and have an edge length of 48 inches, 11 inches longer than the current record.
Sweets, sweats for MB Students
One Wednesday a month through May, 2001, the Manhattan Bread Company on Sepulveda Boulevard will donate 10 per cent of its gross receipts to Manhattan Beach schools as part of its Sweets for Scholars Program. The first Sweets for Scholars day is October 4 when every Child Development Center kid who comes to the store will receive a free cookie. On a sweaty note, Super Sports Manhattan Beach in the Manhattan Village Shopping Center is again giving Manhattan Beach school sites some assistance to purchase athletic equipment.

Book drive for juveniles
The Los Angeles County Children's Court, which handles all cases of child abuse and neglect in the county, is embarking upon a new project to make books available for children of all ages. The idea is to have books for children and their caretakers to read while waiting for their cases, and then to take a book home with them when their cases are concluded. The court needs books that are in good condition, both in English and Spanish, for children of all ages. The books may be dropped off care of councilmember Joyce Fahey, a part-time children's court judge, at the Office of the Manhattan Beach City Manager at the Manhattan Beach City Hall, 1400 Highland Avenue, Manhattan Beach.
