Super speaks

School Superintendent Robert "Duffy" Clark will be a guest as the Coordinating Council of Hermosa Beach holds its first fall meeting 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Kiwanis Hall at Hermosa Valley Park. For information call 374-4072.

Clark took his post July 1 after serving as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction in the Las Virgenes Unified School District in Agoura.

In the move from Las Virgenes, Clark left a 12,000-student, K-12 district sprawling across four communities to head up Hermosa's 980-student, K-8 district.

Clark signed a three-year contract with the Hermosa Beach city School District, and the district board raised the superintendent's salary from $100,000 to $118,000, in part to encourage a longer tenure in that position.

Clark replaced Alan Rasmussen, who left in January to take the superintendent's post in the larger Merced, Calif., school district, after serving in Hermosa for about three years. ER
