Don't let the out-of-focus Dashunds on the newsletter cover fool you, continuing education in Redondo hasn't gone to the dogs. The parks and recreation department has youth and adult programs in everything from kick boxing to surfing to stained-glass-making. Weekend programs for kids as well as tennis, volley ball and basketball for the adults start in October. But Redondo Beach resident's first choice ends Sept. 18, when open enrollment begins. Call (310) 318-0610 ext. 3460 for more information.

Coastal Cleanup

Join thousands of Californians up and down the coast in helping to keep the state's waterline a great place to live. The 16th annual coastal cleanup rallies volunteers from across the state and around the world to spend a morning picking up litter along beaches. Environmental groups are using this event to spread the word about simple ways to reduce pollution. Simple things like carelessly hosing down a driveway can wash cigarette butts, styrofoam containers, motor oil and pesticides into storm drains, which often drain straight into the ocean. Hazardous wastes should always be disposed of properly say organizers. Call (800) CLEAN UP for more information on how to keep the ocean clean or (800) COAST 4U for information on how to get involved with Coastal Cleanup Day.ER
