Police Beat Manhattan Beach

Deflated

A woman's 1993 Ford SUV had its tires punctured with an ice pick in the 1300 block of 17th Street on Sept. 4. Each tire was punctured a number of times. The woman's car has been vandalized four times since July. She has even resorted to parking away from her home on Manhattan Beach Boulevard to avoid being victimized, but to no avail. She said she knows of no reason she has been the object of these attacks.

Better safe than sorry

A woman in the 400 block of Marine Avenue reported the theft of a safe while she was away in Europe. The woman said that she was in Europe from June 22 to Aug. 26. When she returned, she found missing the safe, which had been bolted to the floor and covered with a sheet. The victim said she was almost certain the safe was empty, although it had contained $170,000 several months earlier. The woman placed the money in a safe deposit box before her European sojourn.

Night crawler

A man sleeping on the second floor of his residence in the 2500 block of Ocean Drive awoke at 5 a.m. to see a male suspect peering at him from his bedroom doorway. Pretending to be asleep, the man watched as the suspect inched into and out of the bedroom for an hour before he exited through the front door. A subsequent search of the residence found nothing missing, but a third floor sliding glass door was open.

It was junk

A woman in the 800 block of 10th Street sold her residence to someone who planned to clear it. She contacted some junk dealers about buying some items in her garage. Several dealers came by Aug. 30 to view the items. The woman locked the garage and left. When she returned the next day, the garage was empty.

Alpine event at the beach

A 1991 Mitsubishi was burglarized in a garage in the 1800 block of The Strand. The car's window was smashed and a $400 Alpine stereo was stolen.

Open house

A watch and two bracelets valued at $1,750 were taken from a home in the 3200 block of Crest Drive. The victim said her broker conducted an open house that afternoon, during which someone allegedly stole the jewelry from her bedroom dresser. No other items were taken. ER
