New: Just after hitting their two-year anniversary mark as the new owners of Bac Street Lounge, Artesia, RB, Steve and Lazlo have added some excitement to their little neighborhood boite: Karaoke Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays with host Lance; Wednesdays and Sundays with Lisa; Saturdays with Tom, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Mondays they barbeque and have drink specials all night...

Wo Ist Mein Bier Bitte: It's that time of year again and this year we in the beach cities have an alternative to Alpine Village for Oktoberfest partying: Steve Desk, the new owner of OB's, Highland, MB is getting into the Deutsche spirit every Thursday starting tonight and running through the end of October. From 7 to 11 p.m. break out the Liederhosen and dance, (or just drink and listen), to a live Oom-Pah band, quaff steins of beer and enjoy bratwurst brought in from Alpine Village, the original South Bay Oktoberfest party-place in Torrance. Other changes include a new back bar and a new kitchen, breakfast EVERY day, menu changes, live music Saturday nights, 10 TVs and one big screen to catch all the NFL games. Stop by and check it out...

Wine Dinners: This Monday, Sept. 18 from 7 p.m., enjoy an evening of fine food and wine at Soleil, Manhattan Ave, MB featuring the wines of Australia's Rosemount Estate. The five-course meal includes such unusual fare as Ravioli of Emu, grilled Thresher Shark and Kangaroo Loin. $65 per person. Call 545.8654 for more info and reservations. If that's a little too crazy for you, check out Reed's Forest Glenn wine dinner next Wednesday, Sept. 20. Should be a bit more traditional. $60 per person. Call Al at 546.3299 for details...

Save The Date: A week from tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 22, celebrate Jack Daniel's 150th birthday with the SoCal Sport & Social Club at TJ Charly'z, Hermosa Ave, HB. $7 members, $12 non, includes unlimited Bud and Bud Light and one JD cocktail. Anyone know what Mr. Daniel's middle name is? Take a guess and I'll tell you next week...

Give A Hoot: Paula Harway-Walker, the proud Capitana of the Heal the Bay Coastal Cleanup Day for Hermosa Beach this Saturday Sept. 16, is calling out for volunteers to help clean up the "beautiful" beach from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Heal the Bay provides bags, gloves, coffee and bagels. Volunteers also receive a coupon for a Britta water filter pitcher. Last year about 30 pounds of trash was carted. Call Paula at 937.0184 or check out www.healthebay.org for more info...

NFL X's & O's: Patrick Molloy's, Pier Plaza, HB is doing something interesting for Monday Night Football this season. Here's the deal: you go in on Monday night, pay $5, get a T-shirt and a beer. The T-shirt designates you as an X or an O. Prior to the game the playing teams are also designated either X or O. If you are an X and the X team scores, you get 25-cent shots and a mystery beer for a buck - meaning you pay a buck and they reach into a cooler and pull out a beer. Could be a Bud, could be a Becks. Versa-Vice if you are an O. Each week thereafter you can show up in your X or O tee and enjoy the specials when your team scores. If you want to change affiliations, just pay another $5 and get another shirt, then you can decide which team you want to go with based on who is playing and designated X or O. Got it? Their simpler promo - 10 cent wings all night. Call owner Fred Hahn at 798.9762 for more details. By the way, how great is NY Jet Wayne Crebet from Hofstra University, my Alma Mater? Keyshawn who? TJ Charly'z folks must be pysched...
