MANHATTAN BEACH - Police Beat

Burgled

A woman in the 200 block of Ninth Street called police Aug. 28 to report two burglaries. She said that her home was burglarized Aug. 11. She and a male companion she refused to identify returned home late in the evening but didn't notice anything wrong. Later that night, the male companion discovered another male crouching behind a sofa. The suspect screamed and fled. A search of the premises revealed the theft of a Sony television and two remotes. On Aug. 25, the woman's car was burglarized from her open garage. She said that $2,500 worth of goods had been taken, including a $240 cell phone, a gym bag with clothes valued at $550, a make-up case with cosmetics and toiletries valued at $560 and a $25 Fredricks of Hollywood Gift Certificate.

Annoying calls

A Manhattan Beach woman complained of receiving 45 telephone calls from an unwelcome caller from Aug. 26 to Aug. 28. The male voice asked to speak to her by her first name and tried to engage her in conversation. He said he met her in a bar, but she does not go to bars and never gave out her telephone number. He consistently asked why she wasn't being friendly and once said, "I know where you live, you know." The woman then threatened to call the police, but the voice said it was okay because he was on a cell phone that couldn't be traced. Fearing for her safety, the woman did call the police.

Alpine event at the beach

A 1991 Mitsubishi was burglarized in a garage in the 1800 block of The Strand. The car's window was smashed and a $400 Alpine stereo was stolen.

Open house

A watch and two bracelets valued at $1,750 were taken from a home in the 3200 block of Crest Drive. The victim said her real estate broker conducted an open house that afternoon, during which someone allegedly stole the jewelry from her bedroom dresser. No other items were taken. ER
