New: Ein Stein's, Pier Ave, HB is instituting a discount program for hospitality industry people: 10 percent off food and drinks at any time. Their full liquor license should be in effect sometime this month. Closed For Remodeling: Cialuzzi's Italian resto in the King Harbor Shopping Center, PCH, RB is getting an interior facelift. Owner Charlie Byrd says they are going for a "more romantic" atmosphere and should be reopened by mid-September. My question is where are the cops going to go eat in the meanwhile? They don't even have Wings of The West in Hermosa anymore to fall back on. Donuts, donuts, donuts...

Heal The Bay: Tonight, Thursday, Sept. 7, join the cause at the 13th annual Heal The Bay Summer Bash fundraiser party at 705, Pier Avenue, HB sponsored by Spectrum Health Clubs. The event beginning at 7 p.m. will feature a buffet style dinner, passed hors d'oeuvre, Joe's Band performing live starting at 8 p.m., dancers and magicians. $20 cover donation at the door. It's a great cause and a guaranteed blast so go out and show your support...

Battle Of The Bartenders: Beginning this Sunday, Sept. 10 at 705, Pier Avenue, HB, and continuing over the next four weeks, catch your fave South Bay bartenders competing for $1,000 in cash prizes. Mix masters will be judged in four categories: best new drink recipe; speed and accuracy; showmanship; overall skill. Call 705 owners Scott or Shane at 372-9705 for more info...

Bam-Bam: Straight outta New York, Stomp, the fab musical featuring an eight-member troupe that uses everything BUT conventional percussion instruments - matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, hubcaps, etc. to make "music," slams on the stage at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center's Terrace Theatre this weekend, Thursday, Sept. 7 through Sunday, Sept. 10. I've seen it on Broadway and highly recommend. Call 714.740.2000 or 213.480.3232 for tix...

For The Dog Pound: Nick's Bar & Grill, Aviation, RB has been recognized by the SCBBA, (Southern California Browns Backers Assoc), as an official Brown's viewing location. They have an outdoor patio and for a pre-game "tailgate" party and barbeque. O'Hearns bar right next door touts itself as an unofficial Browns Bar and have Tommy Squires, former bartender of Pier 52, behind the bar. Between the two bars it's like a mini-reunion of the old Pier 52 Browns Backer group. Check out www.scbba.com for more info...

NFL: How many days until basketball season? Glad I didn't comment on my boys last week as they are pretty much DONE. Catch them next Sunday night on ESPN as they face Arizona - what a real barn-burner that'll be. Let's see, is there anything else on, let me check the listings - woo-hoo the evolution of the ping-pong table on A&E, that should prove a more exciting spectacle. Maybe we'll see Romulus and Remus form a murderous row of haste as they smash hit after helacious hit and render an impervious defense. I can go to www.bigword.com too, Dennis...
