Police Beat: Hermosa Beach

Fight breaks window

A fight broke out on the popular Pier Plaza shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, and in the course of the fight a window was broken at a Plaza bank building, police said.

One person suffered a cut above the right eye, and was treated at the scene by Hermosa firefighter-paramedics.

Snatcher snatched

A man allegedly snatched a woman's purse from under a table at a Pier Avenue establishment about 2 p.m. Saturday, then was snatched himself by a witness, police said.

The alleged purse thief was held for police, who returned the purse to the woman with nothing missing from it.

The woman did not desire prosecution of the suspect, a police report stated.

Reach and grasp

Parking permits are popular targets for thieves, as a motorist found out after parking her blue 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe at Hermosa Valley Park about midnight last Tuesday.

"Girlfriend parked car at Valley Park overnight," the motorist's boyfriend wrote in a report to police.

"Window doesn't close all the way. Somebody reached in and stole pass from rear view mirror."

Mercedes mugged

Someone bashed in the window of a 2000 Mercedes C280 as it sat parked on 14th Street about 7:45 p.m. last Tuesday, and stole a wallet from the console, police said.

Gone with the wallet were credit cards and the vehicle's registration.

Seizing opportunity

A Hermosa man was parted from his cell phone after leaving it inside his 1968 Pontiac Firebird on Friday.

"Accidentally left car unlocked, cell phone in back seat, gone next morning," the man wrote in a report to police.

Happy ending

A woman called police Friday to report that her purse was missing, and then later reported that someone found it and returned it to her.

Attempted force

A Culver City woman parked her silver 1999 Honda Civic in the area of 10th Street and Pier Avenue Friday night, and when she returned about 1 a.m. Saturday she found that the driver's window would not work properly.

She flagged down a police officer, who confirmed that someone had tried to force open the window.

Phone gone

Cell phones are among the items frequently lost and stolen, as a Hermosa Beach man found out Saturday.

"Lost somewhere on Pier Avenue while shopping or dining," he summarized for police.

Mail theft

Someone apparently stole a Hermosa woman's checkbook from her mailbox after her bank sent it to her, police said.

Checks belonging to the woman were used in purchases and attempted purchases last Sunday in Redondo Beach, a police report stated.

Unlocked car

A Hermosa man reported the theft of a parking permit from his white 2000 Toyota 4-Runner as it sat parked along Monterey Boulevard last Monday.

"Car was unlocked and parking pass was discovered missing next morning," the man lamented in a report to police. ER
