Lost and found
Someone went into a busy Pier Avenue store Friday evening and stole some clothing plus an employee's purse. The purse was recovered later that night by a security guard at the Galleria at South Bay in Redondo. Hermosa police officers were inside the Pier Avenue store, investigating the theft there, when the employee got a phone call from the Galleria guard, saying that he had recovered the purse and its contents, including a wallet, when they were dropped by someone who was running from him.
Proper screening
Someone apparently tried to break into a woman's second-floor apartment on 10th Street on Friday. The woman returned home to find that a window screen in her kitchen had been bent back, but it remained locked from the inside, she reported to police. "The attempted entry was a failure," she reported.
Wild world
A CD of Cat Stevens' greatest hits was a casualty when someone stole the CD player from a Hawthorne man's blue 1998 Honda as it sat parked outside a Hermosa Beach business last Wednesday. Stevens was on the box when the player was stolen, the man reported to police.
Smash & grab
Someone bashed in a passenger window of a 1992 Chevrolet truck as it sat parked in the municipal parking structure last Sunday night, and stole the radio.
Phone gone
A Hermosa Beach man lost his cell phone, he reported to police. "Left on desk or in friend's car," he wrote in his report. "No suspect info." The Nokia phone was valued at $300.
Phone gone II
A man was walking along the waterline in Hermosa Beach about 2 a.m. Friday before last when he discovered that he had become parted from his cell phone, he reported to police. The Sprint phone was valued at $100. ER
