Fire promotions
Four firefighters have been promoted to the position of engineer, announced Hermosa Beach Fire Chief Russell Tingley.
The promotions went to Aaron Marks, Aaron Bush, Mike Garofano and Darryl Powers, who also serves as arson investigator.
Marks is a six-year department veteran, while Powers has five years with the department, Garofano four and Bush three.
Powers fills a vacant engineer's position while the other three fill newly created engineers' spots. The new positions were created in part because of special requirements for operating fire apparatus. With the promotions two full-time engineers will work each shift, Tingley said.
Boys from Ipanema
The Guys From Ipanema will perform Thursday, Aug. 3 on the Pier Plaza, as part of a free series put together by South Bay jazz ambassador and baked goods purveyor Ozzie Cadena. Featured in the show 5 to 9 p.m. will be singer Gretchen Parlato, guitarist Marcel Camargo, bassist Pablo Motta, percussionist Marcel Adjibi and flutist Evan Frances Chavez.
Performing Thursday, Aug. 10 will be the Isaiah Ceccarelli Trio.
