MCHS classmates Not forgotten

Three friends, musical geniuses and 'Costa grads, who died so young:

Lisa Riley, Class of '83: The most beautiful alto voice Mira Costa ever had, Lisa also had a strong sense of what was true and right. She never let anyone get away with a lie, student or teacher. She married right out of high school and died of cancer after giving birth to two beautiful babies.

Scott Magill, Class of '84: Won a NuArt award for film making, and worked with Michael Davis, Roger Avery and Quentin Tarantino on their first films, in my home. Two days after Scott committed suicide, a world-famous director called to ask him to work on his next film. He leaves an important lesson: Feel like killing yourself? Wait two days. After that? Wait another two. Something will change.

Valerie Gulick class of '83: Sweet, loving, misunderstood genius, sometimes mislabeled a "geek." She was outspoken and honest. Her (adoptive) mother and father followed soon after.

A Valerie J. Gulick Fellowship has been set up:

"The Valerie J. Gulick Fellowship honors the memory of Indiana University graduate student Valerie J Gulick (1965-1994). The Fellowship will be awarded annually in the amount of $1,000 to a graduate student in Russian and/or Medieval history at Indiana University, Bloomington.

-- Stacey Abigail Morse, Class of '83

Mike Duitsman, Class of '79, passed away on July 10, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 12 years Natalie, son Tyler, daughter Michaela and the entire Duitsman and Cusenza families.

After graduating in 1979, Mike continued his outstanding academic and athletic career at Harbor College until 1981. From there he relocated to Northern California where he attended Cal State Stanislaus. He obtained his degree and help lift the baseball team all the way to the College World Series. After earning his masters degree, he began a very successful teaching and coaching career. He was able to positively influence his student and players, while maintaining that Mike Duitsman-like attitude. I will miss you.
