Call of the wild

A Manhattan Beach couple returned home July 1 to discover a bizarre telephone message on their answering machine. A woman with a British accent had left instructions for the man on how to kill his wife. The message counseled the man to make several movements such as "walk to his car, take three steps to his left," etc. and then shoot his wife in the head. The husband said that they’d received prank telephone calls in the past, but never one like this before.

Bombs burst

A business in the 100 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard received a false bomb threat the afternoon of July 4. A man called the boutique and said, "There’s a mother------ bomb in the store!" A cursory search of the store premises by police uncovered no bomb. The store remained open the rest of the day.

Window treatments

On consecutive days July 1 and July 2, an unknown person smashed classroom windows at the Pennekamp Transition School. Nothing was taken from the classrooms, which were empty. ER
