Supervisor Don Knabe has appointed Manhattan Beach community leader Charlotte Lesser to the Los Angeles County Commission for Women. The commission, which advises the Board of Supervisors, focuses on issues of importance to women, including domestic violence, discrimination, health care and aging. Lesser is the Community Education Administrator for the Beach Cities Health District. She was named Los Angeles County Woman of the Year in 1999.
The country band West Coast Flyer invades Polliwog Park Sunday at 5 p.m. as part of the Concerts in the Park series. The concert, like the others that follow every Sunday through Sept. 3, are free.
Jazz guitarist Hideaki Tokunaga, who went from jamming in the subways of New York City to recording CD's that have been distributed worldwide, concludes the Spring 2000 Classical Sands concert series tonight beginning at 7 p.m. at Barnabey's Hotel.
