Manhattan Beach Police Beat

Manhattan Beach Police Beat

Stop! Thief!

On June 20, police were dispatched to the 3800 block of The Strand on a report of one man chasing another man while yelling to call police. The victim had returned to his Strand apartment about 2 p.m. to find the front door ajar and his CD's in a bag in the lower bedroom. He heard people rustling upstairs and went up the staircase yelling at whoever was in the house. The burglars jumped from the second story balcony, crashing through Plexiglas roofing covering the porch of the apartment to the west. The victim gave chase, but could not catch either suspect. The police, however, later took two men into custody after one was found in possession of a college ring taken from the apartment.

Talk 'n Smack

A man in a van with his two-year-old child tried to exit the driveway of his apartment complex in the 1400 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard on June 17, but found his egress blocked by an illegally parked Toyota Camry. The man waited awhile and then called Parking Control for a ticket and tow. Before they arrived, the Camry's owner arrived and a verbal confrontation ensued. It culminated in the victim being struck with a semi-closed fist on the face and neck. Parking Control Officers, who arrived on scene, were able to obtain the vehicle license plate of the illegally parked car before the suspect drove away.

His pants were up

A resident living in the 500 block of 31st Street reported a suspicious plumber on June 16. The resident contacted his home protection company because of plumbing problems, and it engaged a plumber to fix the leaks. The plumber arrived in an unmarked van without a uniform, arousing suspicion. He aroused further suspicion when he seemed more interested in the contents of the resident's home and whether the two resident dogs would bite than solving the plumbing problems. When the resident commented on the plumber's attitude, a verbal confrontation ensued in which the plumber told the resident not to tell him how to do his job. The resident and the plumber agreed that the plumber would not conduct the repairs. ER
