Riviera Village Festival

Artists, crafters, musicians and games will overrun the streets of the Riviera Village this weekend. A Mardi Gras will help adults beat the heat while robotic animals will prowl the walks giving rides to the kids. There will also be an animal contest with categories for the weirdest, most talented and best-dressed pet. The festival takes place this weekend, Saturday April 29 and Saturday April 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information call the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce (310) 376-6911.

Overflight issues

South Bay Cities Council of Government's LAX Standing Sub-committee will hear from Dawna Vicars, Assistant Divisions Manager for the Federal Aviation Admistriation (FAA) Air Traffic Division. She'll talk about airport noise and the FAA's Southern California Task Force. there will be a question period.

State Senators Betty Karnette and Debra Bowen will be present later in the evening to discuss their legislative activities.

At 8 p.m. the council will begin its regular meeting and will hear from Dennis Dickerson, Executive Director of California's Regional Water Quality Control Board. He will discuss what the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System means to cities.

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments will meet at the Redondo Beach Public Library in the 2nd floor meeting room at 5:30 p.m., Thursday April 27. ER
