STICKS AND STONES: The HB City Council continues to lead the way in the mixed metaphor competition. At Tuesday's meeting Julie Oakes said about construction developments around town, "I think south Hermosa gets the raw end of the stick." Well, listen to the pot calling the gift horse in the mouth, or something like that...

AIRWARS: El Segundo Mayor Mike Gordon squares off against LAX 2015 Master Plan publicist Susan Gilmore in a debate on the local issue of the decade, if not the century - Los Angeles International Airport's proposed expansion plan. For reservations call the Manhattan Chamber at 545-5313. $15 includes lunch...

"Even though we all know how much children love to pet those cute little bunnies and ducks I think the message we give them is that it's okay to exploit animals," said Royce Morales, a festival staffer opposed to the petting zoo.

NO LOVE FOR THE GLOVE: Salad bar aficionados have been turning thumbs down on a suggestion by RB's Whole Foods store that customers use disposable plastic gloves while spooning up their endive and broccoli. First the store put out the gloves, along with a "Please Use the Gloves" sign that everyone ignored. As of this week the store had taken down the sign, leaving just the pile of gloves for everyone to ignore...
