Well mates, if'en you were in one of two places this weekend ya filled yer sacks! You had to be'in Catalina, where the white sea bass were just about jumping out'a the water into the boat, or on the Colorado River. At the river the striped bass were snapping at anything that you could throw at'em. As a bonus, the corvina at the Salton Sea were wide open -- between the gust of 40-mile-per-hour winds.
Now don't get me wrong. The boys at the Portofino Fuel Dock and the Redondo Beach Fishing Pier were also reporting good inshore fishing; sand bass, calico's,those dang spiney little B@#$ta&ds, Sculpin, and a smattering of halibut.
On the deep side, there were still plenty of those sweet little coddlies; that's red snapper, cow cod and salmon grouper.
If you had a chance to get on an outer-island boat you may have found some of those spring yellow tail breezing. Some big mammas weighed in at 30 pounds! Aarg....Sez the Captain.
The Barracuda are also churning up the bait balls from Diego to Santa Barbara; with few showing off the Redondo Canyon walls.
However, it won't be long before you'll be loading up those Cuda's rite here in your own back yard off the piers from Hermosa to Malibu.
Along the boardwalk: There seems to be another storm brewing. During the last storm of winds, rain and high surf, one of the local Wharf Fish'anados, who at this time shall remain nameless, lost his bait receiver at sea. The next day the receiver, was found by another fisherman known as "Nickie the Nub." Happy with his find, Nick repaired the receiver and took it to Catalina where it is now filled with those sweet little candy bait called Squid. Why? For the white sea bass! However, Nick was ratted out by another known as "Louie the Lip" for not sharing his catch. Now the squid is out of the receiver and the Reel Owner of the receiver wants it back. Off to the Harbor Patrol he went. "There will be hell to pay, I tell ya, lest I get back my receiver, squid and all." I say it's worth a trip to Catalina to see this action story unfold.
Where's Dave? Update. Seems that Dragon Boat Dave has, well, you know, vanished.
That's rite. Gone like the wind in yer sails. There's an all points for Dave look out from Baja to Ensenada. Any information is welcome. Contact the ER at(310)372-4611. Ask for Captain Jack -- "we tip" for Dave. And, send in those fish pic's and fish tails. ER
