Redondo Beach Union High School's Academy of Health and Fitness, a program for students interested in pursuing careers in sports medicine, has been selected by the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) as a tour site during a statewide conference to be held this week in Long Beach.
The tour is set for today. The Academy of Health and Fitness has received the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports award as a PE and health education exemplary program. The American Cancer Society and the California Department of Education have also honored the academy.
The South Bay Auxiliary of Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance is awarding scholarships to worthy South Bay area high school seniors. The scholarships will go to students planning to enter college to pursue health care careers. To be eligible the seniors must be U.S. citizens and they must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better. Amounts of the awards will vary based on qualifications and need.

Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce members are invited to join in a trip to the Xuan-wu business district of Beijing in October. The trip is at the invitation of Chinese delegates who visited Redondo last fall. The Beijing adventure will last seven days and will cost participants about $2,000.
