Sand Dune recommendations considered

The regular meeting of the Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Commission on Monday, Feb. 28 will include a discussion of recommendations prepared by the Sand Dune Park Neighborhood Subcommittee. The recommendations cover park use policies such as hours of operation and the number of people using the dune. The meeting will be in the city council chambers, 1400 Highland Avenue, at 7 p.m.

More great spellers

Timothy Johnson of Torrance and Brianna Lee of Hermosa Beach were the second and third grade winners of the 13th Annual Spelling Bee held last week at Manhattan Village. Johnson won the second grade competition over Hermosa's Brian Humbarger and dozens of other children. His winning words were "annex" and "bonbon." Lee captured the third grade competition, successfully spelling the words "enjoin" and "demise." Daniel Wong of Torrance placed second.

Roundhouse story time

The new Kid's Kelp Forest exhibit at the Manhattan Beach Roundhouse Aquarium at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier is the setting for Children's Sea Story time, every Sunday at 11 a.m. All children and adults are invited to participate. Admission is free. Call 310-379-8117 for more information.

Costa kids in film

A group of Mira Costa students made the trek to the Pyramid at Cal St. Long Beach Friday to appear as extras in the Adam Sandler film "Little Nicky." From 2-11 p.m., they cheered and booed as Sandler, in the title role, played a demonic game of basketball against his two brothers. The film is due for release this fall. ER
