Mon., Feb. 7, is the last day to register to vote in the upcoming Mar. 7 election. To give voters the opportunity to register to the deadline, the Redondo city clerk's office will stay open until 8 p.m. so that residents may sign on to vote in the presidential primary election. The city clerk's office is located at 415 Diamond Street (corner of Pacfic Coast Highway). For more information call (310) 318-0656.

Foster parents

The Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) will sponsor an informational meeting for beach cities residents interested in becoming foster parents on Wed., Feb. 9 from 6-9 p.m. The meeting will be held at the BCHD center at 514 N. Prospect Ave. in Redondo.

According to the BCHD there is a shortage of foster parents in the South Bay and local children placed in foster care often end up far away where visits from relatives are difficult to arrange. For more information call (310) 374-3426 ext. 135 or (310) 263-2018.

Burn safety

The Torrance Fire Department, the Torrance Memorial Hospital Burn Center, and the El Camino College Child development Center will join forces on Sat., Feb. 5, to sponsor the 7th Annual Burn Prevention Fair at the Ken Miller Recreation Center, in the Torrance Cultural Arts Center at 3350 Civic Center Drive, Torrance. Fire trucks and other emergency equipment will be on display for children and adults to explore. There will also be tips on fire safety distributed. Booths will also be staffed by firefighters to teach fire safety skills. A band will entertain, and there will be free refreshments. No charge for admission. Vision help

The Center for the Partially Sighted, located in Santa Monica, will join forces with the Redondo Beach Main Library on Thurs., Feb. 10, to hold a special presentation for people with low vision. The event will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the main library at 303 N. Pacific Coast Highway (corner of Diamond St.). Eye experts will discuss degenerative eye conditions and what help is available to the partially sighted. The library's resources for people with low vision will be on display. The event is free.
