Boys' Soccer (2-15): Lost to Mira Costa 3-1 last Wednesday. Dustin Breese scored the Sea Hawk goal. Fell 4-3 to North Torrance Friday despite goals from Andrew Raffaele, Ryan Romero and Corey Callahan.

Girls' Water Polo (15-5): Edged Mira Costa 6-5 last Wednesday at home. Lara Williams scored the game winner with 28 seconds remaining. She finished with three goals, while Sarah Valencia added two. Goalie Malia Wagner posted nine saves.
Boys' Basketball (11-9): Lost by one point, 58-57 at Culver City Jan. 18. DeWayne Morris and Jacob Insler scored 13 points apiece to lead the Mustangs. Knocked off Beverly Hills 48-36 Friday, outscoring the Normans 25-12 in the final quarter. Jai Jennings poured in a career-high 21 points and added a career-best 11 boards for Costa. Avenged earlier loss to Leuzinger, defeating the Olympians 55-41 Tuesday. Greg Geier led a balanced attack with 12 points.
Girls' Basketball (12-8): Raced past Beverly Hills 49-34 Friday. The Mustangs outscored Beverly 36-13 in the second half. Tara Whiteside led all scorers with 17 points, while senior Jacquie Corvan added 12. Rallied past Leuzinger 48-42 Tuesday. Megan Whiteside was a spark, scoring 10 points. See accompanying story.
Boys' Soccer (14-2-4): Slipped past Redondo 3-1 last Wednesday. Edwin Lloja scored twice and Jarrett Olson added a goal for Costa. Edged Peninsula 2-1 in dramatic fashion Friday. Lloja scored with less than one minute remaining in regulation to knot the score, and Derrick Schuster won it in overtime, with a leaping kick with time running out. Lost 4-2 to South Torrance Monday. The game was tied 2-2 at halftime behind goals from Schuster and Tommy Britton, but the Spartans (7-0 in league) scored quickly in the second half to put the game away.
Girls' Soccer (17-2-2): Defeated Redondo 3-1 last Wednesday. Cosette Smith, Crystal James and Shannon Cross netted goals for the Mustangs. See accompanying story. Got by Peninsula 2-1 Friday, behind goals from Smith and Cross.
Wrestling (0-2): Lost 52-15 to North Torrance in Bay League dual meet last Thursday. Jon Cordero outpointed his opponent 7-2 to take the 215-pound class.
Girls' Water Polo (8-8): Lost close game to Redondo 6-5 last Wednesday. Kelly Morgan, Megan Carney, Katay Kocsis, Natalia Mole and Hilary Runnels scored for Costa.
The Spoilers 17s club volleyball team swept through the Martin Luther King Kick-Off Classic last week to capture the first major tournament of the 2000 club season. They won all 10 matches in straight sets, defeating West L.A.'s Sports Shack in the finals. Team members include Chrissie Zartman, Jamie Grass, Claire Gillespie, Keegan Featherstone, Chelsea McCarthy, Erin Manly, Alithie Fu'e, Kiki Ryan, Haley Jorgensbourg and Alicia Boswell.
Redondo Surfing Classes: A six-week surfing class for adults (ages 14 and up) begins Sunday, Feb. 20 at 8 a.m. on the beach in Redondo. Learn water safety, efficient board handling skills, basic surfing techniques and tricks. The class costs $120. A soft foam board is required and can be rented for $60. Adult and Youth Roller Hockey: There are still some openings for the South Bay T.I.D.E.S. Roller Hockey Club's Winter 2000 youth and adult leagues. The youth season begins Jan. 29; adult play began Jan. 25. There are six divisions for boys and girls ages 5-17. Registration is $125 and includes a team jersey. The five adult divisions are broken down by skill level and include a women's division and over-30 division. The cost is $115 for the season.
