Dear ER,
If Krista Barnes had been successful in her drug running enterprise might some
American kid have died after using "her" coke?
No Matter. She is now a heroine of sorts, soon to be an author and world traveler in championing human rights.
America is a wonderful country.

Dear ER,
In this day of reporting crime and other misdeeds in the South Bay, I'd like
to share a rare story of honesty:
On New Year's Eve we enjoyed a fantastic gala presented by Beaches in Manhattan. I, in my exuberance, left my wallet on the table. The next day, when I realized it was gone, I called the club. The receptionist was very cordial, and told me that the staff was very honest and that if they found it, I had a good chance of getting it back. I really didn't believe I would ever see it again. Later on, when the manager checked the safe, there it was! Returned to me complete with credit cards and cash. Thank you, Bob O'Malley and the staff of Beaches for your honesty. We will always patronize your fine establishment. Kudos!

Dear ER,
I discovered something that I think every Californian should be informed of.
I'm referring to the petition to recall Governor Grey Davis of this state for
his act of preventing proposition 187 and eliminates it as the protective bulwark
which would have been a protection from the massive invasion of illegal immigrants
now threatening our state and our nation!
This petition which can be obtained by calling 1-800-600-8642 is, I feel, a worthy and urgent project that concerned citizens of California should pursue immediately to remove this governor who has clearly and brazenly gone against the will of the voters of California. He is also attempting to impose Draconian totalitarian gun control and gun confiscation laws reminiscent of Hitler's own gun control laws of the 1930's that disarmed and rendered the German people helpless against the Gestapo. We should not allow such things to happen to California or our nation and this petition is a good place to start. For we should remember that when guns are outlawed only criminals will have guns (with the most successful criminals residing in the government of course) and the illegal invasion of our state must be stopped! Let's call 1-800-600-8642 and recall Davis NOW!

Bernice "Bunny" Seawright was a grand lady. Many of us will miss her.
In researching our city's past years, most timely I spotted the following words in the Hermosa Review Newspaper, Nov. 16, 1944 edition. Then she was retiring president of the Sandpipers philanthropic organization.
"Being the sort of person she is, Bunny was also astonished that the Board members were convinced her long record of civic service outside of the Sandpiper organization would be considered as anything special.
"Her work in the aquaplane races, motor corps and every other community enterprise of worth has always inspired others to greater effort.
"This paper regrets the paper shortage, which prevents us from listing a few of them for you who aren't lucky enough to know her. She is the wife of Major Roy Seawright and the mother of three small boys, Ronnie, Donnie and John."
Now, 56 years later, those same thoughts would still apply to Bunny.

Dear ER,
Presenting a "special Christmas show " like the "Forgotten Carols" starring
the legendary Glenn Yarbrough (Hermosa Civic Theatre December 16, 1999) requires
the utmost cooperation from newspapers, journalists, and editors alike. Advertisements
alone just don't work.
It is with this in mind that we would like to express our sincere thanks to Bondo Wyszpolski and Rob Fulcher of the Easy Reader. Mary Rooney, Mitch Asuma house manager Jess Iayuan, Jamie Makarczyk sound tech, and Rick Felix lighting tech, who went above and beyond the call of duty to make this show so successful.
This show opens the door for us to bring to the south bay cultural shows from Europe and afar, that we all would not normally have the opportunity to see. These shows are not necessarily huge grossing events (they're really more of a labor of love) but are very rewarding, and judging from the audience response, very much appreciated.
Again our sincere thanks to all concerned.

Dear ER,
Little Hermosa Beach, the jewel in the navel of the South Bay, had a wonderful
New Years party. We had Fireworks, a nice dance band and between six and 10
thousand party goers. (That made it a little bigger than a normal weekend evening.)
The reason we had a great party and Los Angeles didn't is the quality of our people.
Our city council contains no felons, no gay activists, no crooks and no career politicians. Our city staff is on a first name basis with most of the town and like us as we like them. They aren't bored corrupt flacks who are just in the office to collect a paycheck and make some citizen's life miserable. Our police chief is a real American and member of the community, not some pseudo-Nazi socio-fascist clone.
In short, we're real people who have a community, not an overgrown bloated bureaucracy run by crooks and degenerates. We have a nice town and nice parties. We also have a whole bunch of nice restaurants, so come on down and spend money. You'll have a fine meal (and won't get car-jacked or caught in a police scandal.)

Dear ER,
I just wanted to thank all of the concerned residents of Manhattan Beach who
signed the initiative petition that was recently circulated. At least now, you
the people will have a chance to decide how much development is really necessary
at the Metlox site. And, isn't that the way it should be?
Past petition drives prove that the people should always have a say in decisions that are precedent-setting and significant in the future of their communities.
The former Biltmore site (Noble Park) in Hermosa Beach and the downsizing of the Manhattan Open Volleyball Tournament immediately come to mind as issues where citizens rose to the occasion and made a difference.
A continuing effort to keep the Metlox site commercial-free will pay off big time for those who care about which direction the town will take.

Dear ER,
This is an "overdue" THANK YOU, to both our Fire Department and our Police Department
for "taking care of Hermosa" over the New Year's festivities ... they were evident
and very professional. I'm sorry they had to give up their personal festivities
to "serve and protect" us, but I do hope they know how much we in Hermosa do
appreciate it.
An even more special note to the Fire Department, which unfortunately, I've had to call upon two occasions: Besides just being the best, they are the kindest, the most compassionate group I have ever encountered. I hope that when you, as citizens, see them going to the aid of others or even jogging in your neighborhood, please wave and say, "thank you." Please show them how much you appreciate their presence.
YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST! Thank you for "being there!"
Judy Garland (and Amber says thank you too!)
