Manhattan Beach-based Skechers USA, Inc. has been named as a defendant in a class-action lawsuit brought by shareholders that claim the company failed to disclose threatened litigation prior to its June 9, 1999 initial public offering. The threatened lawsuit materialized just days after Skechers went public, when Griggs, the maker of Doc Martens shoes, sued Skechers for trade dress violations in connection with shoe design. The Griggs suit was filed one day after Skechers sued Griggs for fraud on the public, alleging Doc Martens' shoes labeled "Made in England" actually are manufactured in the Far East.
Skechers CEO Robert Greenberg said that the class action suit was "completely without merit."
Target Stores was awarded the Sweepstakes Trophy over the weekend for its Rose Parade float titled "Dreams Come True." The Sweepstakes Trophy is given to the float judged the most beautiful. The Target float was covered with more than a half-million flowers and featured Manhattan Beach Olympic figure skating hopefuls Johnnie and Tiffany Stiegler. This is the fifth year Target has won an award.
