Belasco Theatre Company

Hermosa Beach Community Theater

The Belasco Theatre Company youth musical theatre has been training children from all over the South Bay for 10 years. Ages 5-18 participate in a variety of classes, workshops and programs to teach musical theatre performance. Summer camp for ages 6-11, featuring songs and dances from the Broadway musical “Annie.”  Students will receive training in dance, vocals and acting, culminating in a performance on the last day. Beach Cities Indoor Volleyball Camps

Weeklong camps for ages 7 to 18 offered throughout the Greater Los Angeles. Established in 2000, the mission statement of the Beach Cities Volleyball Club is to “teach life skills and volleyball skills to young people.” BCVC teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced players. Grouped by age and experience, players progress from station to station working on a specific skill and participate in spirited competition to practice newly acquired skills. Children ages 6 to 13 participate in sports, drama, cooperative games, crafts, beach activities and off-site excursions encouraging social, physical and creative development. 9 weeks of camp from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. with an option of an extended “After Camp” until 6 p.m. The weeks culminates with a potluck lunch and an afternoon of skits and performances. Manhattan REC Summer Camp

REC Summer Camp is for children ages 5-1/2 to 12, incorporating education and fun. The safe,   and wholesome environment allows young people to grow as individuals while interacting as a group. Children are encouraged to participate in all scheduled activities. However, if they choose not to, alternate activities are available. Every Thursday there will be an optional field trip. All programs are supervised by trained CPR certified recreation leaders.

Manhattan Teen Center Camp

The 2014 Teen Center Summer Camp is a drop-in, non-custodial program open to resident and nonresident 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The Teen Center has a variety of activities including foosball, ping-pong, pool, Xbox Kinect, movies, basketball and volleyball. In addition to the daily activities, the Teen Center has trips each week to local theme parks, beach camps, Catalina Island, Big Bear Lake and baseball games.

Kids Extreme

Be ready to swim, run and go over, under, through and between various obstacles. Mud, tires, hay, water, walls, and much more will be provided to challenge your physical ability. The Manhattan Village Kids Club program invites children to participate in monthly and signature events all year long. Members receive a free backpack, membership pin, and newsletter. Pediatric Therapy Network

For nearly two decades, Pediatric Therapy Network’s highly trained therapists and early intervention teachers have been providing quality services to children with developmental concerns including those with autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, learning disabilities, orthopedic and neurological challenges. Pediatric Therapy Network supports 2,500 children a year through Early Intervention, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Skills and Community Integration, Camp Escapades, Mental Health and Early Head Start programs. The facility, which is a part of the Beach Cities Health District program, is a five-level play structure with sports courts, rock walls and a high ropes course. 31st Annual Fishing Derby

Sunday, May 18, Polliwog Park Pond

Families are invited to spend the morning at the Polliwog Park Pond. Kids may even catch their first fish as part of the Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation event. Kids 5 and under, 6 to 7, 8 to 9 and 10 to 12 can compete for prizes in three categories: most fish caught, longest fish caught and most interesting fish caught. All fishing will be catch and release, and only side-casting will be allowed. Participation is free of charge. 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Bike and Skateboard Safety Expo

Saturday, June 7, Manhattan Heights Park

For the 14th year, Manhattan Beach’s Parks and Recreation and Police Departments are presenting a bike and skateboard safety expo at the Manhattan Heights Park from noon to 3 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will feature stunt shows by BMX Team Soil and the Skatedogs. A temporary skate park will grace the grounds for young skateboarders, as well as a police department bike safety clinic. Mini contests will give out prizes; food and giveaways will be provided.

The South Bay Art Department provides hands-on learning for adults and children in a fun environment. Their summer camps include a Contemporary Art Camp for ages 6 and up running every week from June 23 to August 29. They also have a Fashion as Art camp the weeks of June 23, July 13 and Aug. 4, and a Plein Air Drawing and Painting camp the weeks of July 13 and Aug. 4. SBTC offers weekly tennis instruction sessions for kids in kindergarten to high school. Destination Science

Experium Science Academy

Experium’s summer program includes weeklong classes in mornings and afternoons, in addition to eight-week courses in late afternoon and evening. Topics include chemistry, light, sound, entomology, environment, animals and the brain, for kids in grades K-2.
