Richard Podgurski, known in the South Bay as DJ DIK won best DJ for the second year in a row because of his upbeat old-meets-new music mashups.
“Basically I stand on stage and cheerlead for two hours,” Podgurski said, adding that he DJ’s frequently at local venues like Ocean Bar, American Junkie, Waterman’s, Circa and Sharkeez. “I don’t play for myself, I play for everybody else,” said Podgurski
Podgurski also said that he thinks he was voted best DJ not because of his skill, but because of his consistency and his ability to know what people want to hear.
“I like taking everything that’s super new, and staying on the fringe of what’s new and mixing it in with all the classics,” said Podgurski. “People can sing along to all the songs they know, but behind it is a song that’s just coming out or about to be huge.”
