Skechers to present checks

The 2013 Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk raised a record-breaking $1 million to benefit education and The Friendship Circle, an organization devoted to making a difference in the lives of special needs children and their families. On Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Skechers Corporate Headquarters in Manhattan Beach, the Skechers Foundation will present checks to The Friendship Circle and Ed Foundations in El Segundo, Hermosa, Manhattan, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Redondo and Torrance.

Book release party

Author Ashley Mills Monaghan will hold a book release party for her newly released children’s picture book, “A Little Goes a Long Way” Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Pages Bookstore in Manhattan Beach. Her guest star will be Sausages, a sidekick Dashchund dog from her story, who will make his first appearance ever. She is teaming up with Southern California Dachshund Relief Inc., an organization that helps rescue sick and homeless Dachshund dogs. Monaghan will also bring her guitar and sing the featured song from her book.

Free spine seminar

Marina Del Rey Hospital invites the community to a free spine seminar next Wednesday at the Manhattan Beach Marriott. Physicians from Marina Spine Center will share their insights on different spine surgical methods and approaches in spine pain management to help restore pain-free mobility. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the presentation, followed by a Q&A, will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. To make a reservation, which is required for attendance, call 888-600-5600.

SCPGA Wine Tasting

The Southern California Professional Golfers Association Foundation is hosting its first wine tasting event next Sunday at the Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach. All proceeds from the ticket sales and silent auction will directly support SCPGA Junior Tour grants and the SCPGA Foundation’s Adopt a Kid Program.
