Free bike & skateboard show, expo

The police and the city’s parks and recreation department is partnering up to host the city’s 13th annual Bike Safety and Skateboard Expo Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Manhattan Beach Middle School basketball courts. The family-friendly event will feature two BMX stunt shows and one skateboard show. A temporary skate park with skateboard instruction and mini contest will be provided. The police department will host a bike safety clinic with food and giveaways. For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation at 310-802-5448.

Write letters to soldiers

The Hermosa-Manhattan Chapter of National Charity League is encouraging the community to write letters to soldiers during the city’s 16th Annual Multi-Generation Veteran’s Day on the green belt next to the Veteran’s Monument. A table will be set up from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the corner of 15th Street and North Valley Drive. Paper, crayon and markers will be provided for children. State of the Chamber

The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting a State of the Chamber event Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joslyn Center. The evening will include discussions of the chamber’s progress in the past 18 months and the planned initiatives for the upcoming year. Everyone is invited to attend. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Bike trail detour

The Marvin Braude Bike Trail will be undergoing slurry improvements from 45th Street in Manhattan Beach to Grand Avenue in El Segundo from Wednesday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The train will be rerouted on 45th Street to the Highland Avenue walkway to continue north on Vista Del Mar.
