Heart of Manhattan Beach recipient Maria Sharapova won her first title of the year and moved up to number two in the ATP World rankings with a finals victory over number nine-ranked Caroline Wozniacki on Sunday at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.
The Manhattan Beach resident was recognized by the city council last September for her silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics and for her work with charities, including the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation.
