Redondo boy’s soccer season ends in second-round overtime loss

Redondo Union’s boys soccer team had its playoff run end after two wins, but Coach Nacho Lopez’s team did not go down without a fight.

Playing their second consecutive road game, the Sea Hawks suffered a 1-0 overtime loss at Claremont in the second round of the Division 1 CIF Southern Section Championships.

After earning a wild-card berth and a 2-1 win over Chaminade, Redondo Union’s boys soccer team eliminated defending CIF champion and sixth-seeded Ventura 3-2 Friday in the first round.

Redondo finished its season with a 15-10-4 record. Claremont (14-7-1) advances to the quarterfinals and will host Servite (13-8-7) on Friday.

Bay League champion and fourth-seeded Palos Verdes (21-2-3) shutout St. Francis 6-0 before eliminating visiting Damien 2-1 in a second-round game Wednesday.

The Sea Kings play at JSerra (17-6-3) in the quarterfinals.

West Torrance (10-10-4) was not match for second-seeded Loyola, losing to the Cubs 4-0 on Wednesday.

In Division 4, South Torrance (12-7-6) defeated host Perris 1-0 in double overtime in the quarterfinals Wednesday. The Spartans will host No. 4 Salesian (17-4-2) at 5 p.m. on Friday

In Division 6, ninth-seeded Chadwick (8-1-5) shutout host Environmental Charter in Lawndale 4-0 and will travel to No. 3 Jurupa Hills (17-2-4) for a quarterfinal contest Friday.

In Division 7 action, second-seeded Vistamar (12-4-1) defeated host Milken Community 3-2 and will face the Avalon-Nuview Bridge winner in the quarterfinals.

Fourth-seeded Serra (12-2-1) played at Nordhoff (11-9-1) on Wednesday with the winner advancing to face No. 6 Mammoth 11-0-2 on Friday.
