Mira Costa saw its season come to an end last Thursday with another heartbreaking loss. Playing the role of spoiler, the Mustangs (6-12-2, 1-8-1) fell to visiting Palos Verdes 2-1 in overtime. John Burns scored the lone goal for Mira Costa.
Palos Verdes went unbeaten in league action with an 8-0-2 record and earned the fourth seed in Division 1. The Sea Kings host the winner of the St. Francis-Canyon Springs wild-card game at 3 p.m. Friday.
Redondo (14-9-4, 3-5-2) earned a spot in the postseason as the Bay League’s third team and beat Chaminade 2-1 in a wild-card game Wednesday.
Shane Staudle scored a first-half goal and Colin Jackson kicked the game winner in the 68th minute for Redondo.
The Sea Hawks travel to face No. 6 Ventura (7-2-1) in the first round Friday.
Leuzinger (16-7-4) earned an at-large berth and defeated Lakewood 2-1 in a wild-card contest Wednesday. The Olympians travel to take on top-seeded San Clemente (25-2-1) on Friday.
In Division 4, Pioneer League champion South Torrance (10-7-6) hosts South Bay rival and Del Rey runner-up Bishop Montgomery (10-9-3) in the first round Friday while Pioneer League runner-up North Torrance (10-10-2) travels to West Ranch.
In wild-card match ups on Wednesday, Lawndale (9-10-2) lost to host Azusa 1-0 and Torrance (9-10-3) tied Duarte 0-0 but lost on penalty kicks 7-6.
Chadwick (6-1-5) earned the No. 9 seed in Division 6 and hosts Thacher (8-2-2) in the first round Friday.
Vistamar (10-4-1) is seeded second in Division 7 and will host the winner of the Grace Brethren-Pacific Christian wild-card game in the first round Friday.
