Redondo Beach Police are looking for Jonathan Scott Chacon, a person of interest in the deaths of two Redondo Beach women at 1903 Rockefeller Lane this morning.
Chacon is from Redondo Beach and has been described by police as a male Hispanic, 23-years-old, 5’7” and around 160 lbs. He has black hair and black eyes. He has two tattoos on his right upper arm. One is of the grim reaper and the other a nautical star. He also has ‘death’ on his left forearm and ‘distraught’ on his chest. He is believed to be driving a 1996 black Ford Mustang convertible – CA license 6CQF458. The car has damage to the rear bumper and trunk lid and damage to the convertible top on the passenger and driver’s side.
The police are advising the public not to take action if they encounter Chacon, but rather, to call 911 or any of the tipline numbers with any information.
Police believe he is the boyfriend of one of the victims, Courtney Bergman, and based on the circumstances of their deaths, believe he could be armed and dangerous.
Police still have not confirmed the identity of the two women or how they died, but they are believed to be a mother and daughter. Police confirmed that their deaths happened sometime overnight. The bodies were discovered around 10:08 a.m. after a co-worker of one of the victims entered the house, saw the bodies and called the police.
“It’s sad especially considering this is the second murder in two weeks,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.
Last Wednesday morning Margaret Goldberg, a mother of two and a South Redondo resident, was shot and killed in her home. Around 6 p.m. (Mountain time), her ex-husband Russell Goldberg, the primary suspect, was spotted and pursued on an interstate in Utah. After a three hour stand-off with a police SWAT team, he fatally shot himself.
Russell Goldberg also lived on Rockefeller Lane. Police assured an uneasy public that today’s killings are isolated incidents and are not linked to the Goldberg deaths.
Police are asking anyone with information related to this morning’s killings to call the tipline at (310) 937-6685, text a tip to (310) 339-2362 or to call the RBPD at (310) 397-2477.
Update [8:51 p.m.] RBPD Sgt. Fabian Saucedo said that ongoing efforts to contact the victims’ next of kin have not been successful. “Every effort has been made to contact the next of kin, to no avail,” Saucedo said.
A candlelight vigil is being held tonight at the corner of Rockefeller and Flagler lanes.
