Costa, Redondo girls basketball teams reach quarterfinals

Despite moving up two divisions, Redondo’s girls basketball team is playing like last year’s squad that captured the CIF-Southern Section Division 2AA championship.

Coach Marcelo Enriquez’s Sea Hawks ran over visiting Roosevelt 52-20 Saturday evening advancing to the Wednesday’s Division 1AA quarterfinals when they will play their third consecutive home game at 7 p.m.

Bay League champion Redondo (20-8) will host Ocean League champ Culver City (20-8) who upset third-seeded Millikan 72-69 behind Kailey Tooke’s 46-poiont performance.

Kyra Hamlin led Redondo with 17 points and nine rebounds and Micaela Enriquez added 12 points in the sea Hawk’s win over Roosevelt.

Also in Division 1AA, Pioneer League runner-up West Torrance (23-6) remained in the hunt with a 44-27 win against visiting Great Oak. The Warriors will play at second-seeded Valencia/Valencia on Wednesday.

Bishop Montgomery saw its season end with a 76-67 home loss to fourth-seeded Centennial/Corona.

In Division 1A, top-seeded Mira Costa (20-8) defeated host Beckman 57-27 behind Allie Navarette’s 13-point effort. Halle Maeda and Laura Sheckter each scored 12 points in the win.

The Mustangs will host Diamond Bar (24-4) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

In Division 2AA, North Torrance was eliminated by Alta Loma 53-46 and Lawndale lost to Mayfair 46-41 in Division 2A.

South Torrance (18-10) kept its Division 3AA title hopes alive with a 42-32 win against visiting Los Altos. The Spartans will host top-seeded Orange Lutheran (28-7) in the quarterfinals.

In Division 3A, Leuzinger (18-13) remained alive with a 48-33 win at San Luis Obispo. The Olympians play at second-seeded La Canada (24-3) on Wednesday. A late Cabrillo/Lompoc 3-pointer ended Palos Verdes’ season as the host team pulled out a 39-37 victory.

In Division 4AA, El Segundo (17-11) defeated Covina 48-33 and will travel to fourth-seeded Duarte (25-3) on Wednesday.
